Over 30 years’ experience of higher education management (including quality assurance, validation and partnership work) with a national quality assurance body (Council for National Academic Awards - CNAA) and a university (The Open University - OU) • Extensive experience and knowledge of quality assurance (QA), partnership work, curriculum design, teaching and learning in higher education • Extensive experience of QA/partnership management for a wide range of OU partners • Currently responsible for the leadership and management of OU institutional external quality reviews across the four UK nations – recently led on the OU’s successful QAA Quality Enhancement Review in 2021 to reassure the Scottish/Welsh/Northern Ireland funding councils on the management of quality and standards at the OU • Led on successful HEFCW/QAA developmental reviews of OU degree apprenticeships and digital learning in Wales (2021) • Line management responsibilities for a variety of staff within two organisations • Experience of budgetary monitoring and risk management in different contexts • Participation in numerous QAA reviews of OU partners as an awarding body representative (2005-2019) • Led a collaborative project team, including representatives from QAA, HEFCE and Independent HE, to develop exemplar principles of good practice in validation (2017) • Led on the establishment of an OU awarding body for vocational qualifications, achievement of Ofqual recognition and leadership and management of the ongoing service (2016-18) • Acted as equality and diversity unit co-ordinator and organised unit equality and diversity seminars (2004-2006) • Part of an independent consultative project team to assist the Bulgarian government in establishing a national quality assurance system (1998) • Acted as Review Secretary for an independent institutional review panel for the United Nations University (1998)
