About Doreen Engel

I am eager to share my decades of experience working with persons with disabilities and designing programs to support them. Having personally taught students identified by every category of disability listed in IDEA 2004, I can speak authetically to educators, professors, and administrators about such students’ needs. Parents often tell me that I have an exceptional ability to help them understand their child and the various systems parents must work through to get the support their child needs. I have taught graduate coursework for school leaders interested in Universal Design for Learning, Exceptional Learners, and federal law as it applies to persons with disabilities. My presentation skills are excellent, having developed workshops locally and nationally on all aspects of inclusion. I have prepared for a career in higher ed supporting students with disability by coursework in 2020. During my six years at the ADW, I designed a system for 100 schools for the support and management of students with disabilities which is still in place today. In addition to my experience in schools, I have worked as a direct support professional for persons with intellectual disabilities, and recruited adoptive parents for children with disabilities. My conversant skills in both Sign Language and Spanish have helped me engage and learn from those who are some times left out of conversations support and access for persons with disabilities. I am a published auther, and have received national and local awards for my work. In 2019, I was named a social media influencer by NCEA, although I limited my social medial presence while serving as a principal.
