About Doreen Mayrell

Throughout my undergraduate and graduate degrees in both math and education, I have had the opportunity to work with students and curriculum in each grade K-12. As part of an independent study, I also participated in the TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study), in which I looked at curriculum and problems from countries around the world and compared and contrasted them to those of the United States. I identified trends in the types of teaching and problems given to students in high achieving countries. I believe this experience has given me the skills to create content and curriculum that would allow for instruction that create independent thinkers and problems solvers. In addition, I worked for Princeton University’s Plasma Physics Laboratory in the Science Education Department, writing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum and running professional development opportunities for teachers. This experience taught me how to work as a team, manage others, and connect math curriculum to other content areas and apply it to real world problems. I excel at positions that allow me to use my skills in math instruction, differentiating instruction, curriculum development and technology to foster an interest in math/science and demonstrate how exciting of a field it can be.
