About Dorian N.

As a child, I wanted to become a veterinarian so I could help animals or a writer because I loved the way words told a story. By high school, it became clear that science was not my path, and in college I literally doubled down on words by earning English and Journalism degrees. With no desire to teach or become a reporter, I simply pursued my passion for words. Since then, my career has been a wandering path of communications-related work that includes fundraising, marketing, grant writing, event planning, public relations, and even writing a children's book. During a year-long sabbatical (that turned into almost a four-year career break of volunteering and backpacking around the world), I used my communication skills to help a small Australian wildlife rescue highlight their concerns on local tv and radio stations and created their first newsletter to keep supporters informed. On top of that, I provided round-the-clock, hand's on support helping to care for injured and orphaned animals. The wannabe veterinarian in me rejoiced. I continue to use words in my daily life, and they create meaning and purpose in an uncertain world. Words are powerful and being able to share them is a privilege.
