I started in the nursing profession as a certified nurse’s assistant (CNA) working in an assisted living home called Comfort Cottage and at the Dixie Regional Medical Center on the Medical/Oncology floor. I learned how to care for and communicate with the patient and their family members, multitask, work as a team, and communicate with other professionals (i.e. PT, OT, MD’s, and RN’s). I worked full-time while going to school to become a registered nurse (RN). After graduating I was hired as a Patient Care Assistant which is an internship that allows for nursing students to work as a RN on various floors while preparing to take the NCLEX exam. Once I finished the internship I interviewed and was hired in the ICU. I have worked there for seven years. I also serve as the Director of Nursing for the Comfort Cottage small healthcare and assisted living facilities, which has allowed me to further develop my leadership skills, be involved with regulatory surveyors, licensing, along with other administrative duties. I decided early in my career to become a nurse practitioner. I have actively pursued increasing my nursing skill, knowledge base, and scope of practice. I have taken each step necessary to receive my Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner from the University of Utah. I have enjoyed the education and experiences that I have received through the years and look forward to what my future holds since graduating in May 2013. The majority of my hours were spent in the family practice area. Other areas that I decided to do clinical hours at were Pediatrics, Pulmonology, Neurosciences, and Dermatology. I look forward to helping each of my patients through building a relationship of trust and providing personalized care.
