About Dorothy Mathiesen

Dorothy Mathiesen is currently practicing as an Advanced Practice Provider for the University of Colorado – School of Medicine in the Department of Neurology – Movement Disorders Center. She currently sees patients to screen, evaluate diagnose, manage medications and provide expert disease counseling acute and chronic outpatient care of with neurological diseases and movement disorders. Providing patients symptomatic therapy, disease-modifying therapy and health maintenance and promotion. Previous experienced includes being a clinical education specialist of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children's Hospital Colorado. She provides education for clinical staff consisting of 250 nurses, including direct and float staff as well as cross-trained nurses from the University of Colorado, in supporting the NICU. She has led educational efforts designed to provide excellence in patient care as reflected by the organization receiving the prestigious designation of the top 10 hospitals in Neonatology for two consecutive years. Additionally, she has served in a variety of leadership roles focused on management, program development for staff education, clinical scholar, new graduate nursing residency, evidence based practice, magnet designation, and conference committee co-chair. Dorothy Mathiesen received her bachelor of science in electrical engineering in 1986 from Purdue University, her bachelor of science in nursing in 2004 from University of Colorado, and a master's of master of science in nursing leadership program with an emphasis in education in 2016 from Regis University.
