Regrettably, I have developed amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and am not accepting any new assignments. Specialties: HIV/AIDS social and behavioral research in the US and Africa. I am a Professor Emeritus at the State University of New York at Brockport, located near Rochester, NY. I have conducted HIV/AIDS and other medical anthropology research in New York City, South Florida, Rochester, NY, Zambia, Rwanda, Uganda, Senegal, and Hungary. I have written or edited the following books: The Social Dimensions of AIDS: Method and Theory (with Thomas Johnson)(1986), Culture and AIDS (1990), Global AIDS Policy (1994), The AIDS Crisis: A Documentary History (with Julia Wang Miller)(1998), AIDS, Culture, and Africa (2008), Ethnicity and Health Care Delivery: STDs (2009), and AIDS, Culture, and Gay Men (2010). I founded the AIDS and Anthropology Research Group (1986-90, 92), the American Anthropological Association Task Force on AIDS (1988), and the AIDS and Anthropology Bulletin (1987-93). I previously was a Visiting Professor at the University of Debrecen (2009), a Research Associate Professor at the University of Miami School of Medicine (1989-94, Academic Director, and Institute Director at Nova Southeastern University (1995-96), President of D.A. Feldman and Associates, Inc.(1994-95), and Founding Executive Director of the AIDS Center of Queens County (1986-88). I served as President of the Society for Medical Anthropology (2011-13), Treasurer of the National Association for the Practice of Anthropology (2001-04), and Member of the American Anthropological Association Nominations Committee (2001-04). I have served as an expert witness on several cases involving HIV/AIDS, dentistry, Africa, and politics.
