About Doug Goethal

What drives me is continuous innovation and the pragmatic application of technologies with an ability to break traditional patterns/mindsets to deliver the right data experience to the right person at the right time. As comfortable with the business as in IT, I am a natural liaison between the commercial and technical worlds, whilst being able to lead and motivate diverse teams. It’s all about the data. I began my career in the United States with Computer Associates, followed by a number of years with business intelligence pioneer, Microstrategy. Having re-located my skills to Australia in 2001, I was the Technical Director and Principal Architect for Agave Software (formerly APInsight), and a key member of the executive team that drove the business to its successful acquisition by UXC in 2007. Subsequently I took my BI implementation & architecture skills to Oakton where I held responsibility for the Microsoft and SAP BI Practices. My mix of technical, project delivery and commercial skills was the perfect fit for data visualisation vendor, Qlik, where as Principal Solution Architect, I was a key contributor to many of this vendor’s most successful enterprise customer deployments. This led me to join the data consultancy Analytics8 to provide thought leadership and best practices in data visualisation, analytics and business intelligence. Subsequent stints with TIBCO and Datameer helped to hone my expertise in areas such as streaming data, advanced analytics and big data solutions. I brought my experience to bear as Group Architect for Real Pet Foods, designing the future state of the company’s IT landscape. Most recently I was a Director at The Data People, a leading data & analytics consultancy, focused on data culture enablement and governance before joining the industry leader in this space, Alation.
