About Doug Mitchell

Doug’s early career commenced with a variety of military engineer positions in design, construction and facilities management prior to moving into training and management roles. As acting CEO of Army’s Design and Project Management Organisation, Doug managed aboriginal health infrastructure projects and support to international aid and capacity building programs in the Pacific region, including the UN Transitional Administration in East Timor. The projects involved design of airfields, ports, buildings, power stations, medical facilities and housing subdivisions. Doug was awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross in the 2001 Australia Day Honours List. Later as project director of Defence Construction in NSW ($1.8m spend each week) Doug was instrumental in developing Australia’s first triple (design, construction, fit-out) five-star (Australian Excellence) Green Building. Part of the recognition, as a finalist in the Banksia Awards (Environmental Innovation), was the systems approach to delivery of sustainable development complementary changes to work policies, practices and culture. Following Doug’s achievements he started a business that works with teams to achieve more productive outcomes for the organisation. Doug’s role as a trusted advisor is to facilitate team commitment to improved productivity. The commissions involve engineering, change and project management alignment to business KPIs that include risk, funding and opportunity costs. Doug provides coaching and mentoring services for projects to ensure delivery of intended business and social outcomes.
