About Doug Moretto

As a 30-year Public Safety professional, I have extensive experience in both Police Services and Fire Services at the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety. My experience includes assignments as a Detective, Field Training Officer, Motorcycle Officer, Aerial Truck Operator (Fire), Training Manager and SWAT Team Leader. Since becoming a Captain in 2006, I have commanded Special Operations (Investigations / Community Outreach), Police Services, Fire Services and SWAT Team operations. I continue to provide command oversight of several high value projects including the purchase of fire apparatus for the City of Sunnyvale and the deployment of tactical technology for the SWAT Team. I have extensive training and experience in large venue planning and personnel protection. This experience includes multiple U.S. Presidential and Vice Presidential protection details and Super Bowl 50 planning and tactical deployment.I have been a leader in building teams to enhance community outreach and drive technology projects. I brought the first SMS text based anonymous crime tip system to the department, the NIXLE community messaging system, and the first Mobile Emergency Operations Center (MEOC), bringing state of the art computer and interoperable radio systems into the field for first responders to use to manage critical incidents. I have managed multiple high value projects that involved assembling teams and managing millions of dollars in public funds.
