Quick list highlights of his role-Oversight of all roundabout designs on the state Trunk Highway system, since 2016-Author and owner of MnDOT Facility Design Guide, Section 6E (technical guidance on the topic)-Co-chair of MnDOT Roundabout Steering Committee -Owner/Leader of the MnDOT Roundabout Review Team -Owner/Creator of internal roundabout training curriculum and also responsible for delivering the training to MnDOT staff as well as Local Governmental Units, and Consultant partners-Current Member of 2 Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committees related to roundabout design and performance aspects of roundabouts. Doug is a nationally recognized leader in roundabout design and capacity analysis and has been sought out to present on the topic at FHWA forums, national engineering groups, and by partner states. He was one of 2 State DOT officials selected to participate in a National Academies of Sciences/TRB Scan Tour evaluating Turbo Roundabouts in 4 countries in northern Europe in 2023. The work product of the study will be the analysis of new roundabout type including possible applications in the US and development of national guidance on the subject.
