About Douglas Durant
Douglas Michael “Doug” Durant born 1954 in Bethesda, Montgomery Co, MD. Married Mary Lynne Dehnbostel in Bethesda, Montgomery Co. Doug attended Gaithersburg, Montgomery County, MD, High School and was a member of the Future Farmers of American (FFA). He obtained the American Farmer Degree in 1975 and is a lifetime FFA Alumni and Supporters member. Pursuing his interest in agriculture he attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) receiving bachelor and master degrees in Agricultural Engineering. Doug was employed at the John Deere Product Engineering Center in Waterloo, Montgomery County, Iowa for 37 years. He was involved in advanced hydraulics research, design and development and contributed to the engineering design, development and production release of hydraulic components for the Series John Deere tractor. His efforts resulted in six U.S. Patents and the American Society of Agricultural and Biological (ASABE) AE50 Award for hydraulic brake valve technology innovation. He managed John Deere's global involvement in agricultural tractor strategic standards development. Doug provided leadership in the standards development process by participating and leading committees at the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), the Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD) and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). He was also a member of the ANSI committee representing the United States at the Pacific Area Standards Congress (PASC). Doug is an ASABE Fellow and received four ASABE Presidential Distinguished Service awards, two Leadership Citations, and the distinguished Evelyn E. Rosentreter Standards award. He was awarded the 2013 Virginia Tech College of Engineering Outstanding Alumnus (Biological Systems Engineering) and the 2014 ANSI Meritorious Service Award.
