About Douglas Elliott

I have been actively involved in construction, real estate development and finance for over 35 years and bring a multidisciplinary approach to development projects and consulting work. I worked as a carpenter while studying architecture and planning in college. I liked construction so much I became a general contractor rather than an architect. After ten years of high end residential work-both remodeling and new construction, I began developing my own projects-initially partnering with investment from my general contractor clients before evolving to institutional equity partners. My focus has been on in-fill residential and mixed use for-sale and multi-family rental projects in the Bay Area. I became interested in community service early in my career and wanted to give something back, utilizing the trade skills and expertise I learned in my work. I became a Director at EAH Housing- as well at their corporate Secretary and member of the development and finance committee. I served on EAH's Board on and off for close to 30 years. During my time with EAH, I participated in the creation of >$500M of affordable housing in California and Hawaii, primarily with new mid-density in-fill projects and acquisitions of existing projects. The complexity of the private and public finance required to create affordable housing prepared me to become the president of the residential division of a private lender involved in debt and equity investments in multi-family projects. I took time for personal development after 30 years of entrepreneurship and pro-bono work and spent much of Covid in Europe, advising a home building company there. I develop in-fill residential sites when the opportunity presents itself and serve as a development and financial consultant to private companies. I serve as an Owner’s Representative and Development Advisor on residential and commercial projects, serving as the liaison between the owners and the design/engineering team, the governmental permitting agencies, the lenders and equity investors and the construction team. I also advise and participate in structuring project recapitalization’s. I hold a California real estate brokerage license, which I utilize primarily for private lending. For me, the joy of this work has never diminished since I started studying design, planning and physically building homes. What is particularly fulfilling is the collaboration with principals, capital sources and the creative teams that bring projects to fruition; design/engineering and construction.
