About Douglas Hansen
Ph.D. from the University of Delaware in 1993 in Marine Biochemistry, and then completed a 2 year NRC post-doctoral research fellowship at the US Naval Research Laboratory; continued as a Research Chemist in the same group for another 2 years before joining Princeton Applied Research in 1997 as a Technical Support Specialist, and later became their Senior Scientist. Joined the University of Dayton Research Institute as a Senior Scientist and Group Leader in 2004, continuing research on natural marine biopolymers as corrosion inhibitors on alloys such as 316L, Ti6Al4V, AA7075-T6 and AA2024-T3. In November of 2008 he was appointed as an Associate Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of Dayton. In 2010 he received a joint faculty appointment in the Graduate Materials Engineering Program. In 2019, he was selected as a Fellow of NACE International (now Association for Materials Protection and Performance, AMPP). In 2021, we was selected as a Fellow of The Electrochemical Society. Specialties: Corrosion electrochemistry, primarily in the development of environmentally friendly coatings and corrosion inhibitors. Areas of expertise include SEM, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), electrokinetic (zeta) potential measurements, Scanning Vibrating Probe and Scanning Kelvin Probe techniques, Localized Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy and electrochemical measurement and polarographic techniques in the study of corrosion and corrosion inhibition.
