About Douglas Krauth

Research Associate at Quanta Therapeutics. Research focus on K-RAS inhibitors as cancer therapeutics. Previously worked in the Dr. Navas-Martin Lab at Drexel University. Developed a project focused on Coronavirus innate immune evasion tactics with a specific interest in the functions of the small open reading frame (ORF) accessory proteins of the novel SARS-CoV-2. This work focused on the molecular processes by which ORF8 is produced in infected cells, post-translationally modified, secreted and taken up by neighboring cells. It also described the role ORF8 plays in activation of the inflammasome and promotion of syncytia formation. I have an overall interest in virus-host interactions, molecular biology and structure based design of small molecule inhibitors. Previously, I worked in the oral immunology and infectious disease department at the University of Louisville with a research focus on delineating the many roles NADPH-derived ROS plays in immunity, specifically looking at its immune modulatory effects, anti-inflammatory effects and role in efferocytosis among children with chronic granulomatous disease. Prior to starting my career in research, I cultivated industry experience as a DNA sequencing technician at Eurofins genomics. I have a passion for volunteer work focusing on youth civic engagement and am a proud alumni of the Kentucky YMCA Youth Association which has allowed me to travel to schools all around the Louisville Metro region advocating for student engagement in government, public policy, leadership development, and civic action. Over the last decade I have attended and helped run nearly 50 youth-in-government and leadership training conferences through the Y and its partners. When I do get free time, I can usually be found reading and cross stitching at the Wissahickon or playing piano just loud enough to annoy my neighbors.
