About Douglas Powell

Now excited to be working at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, processing grant applications for HHW and recycling programs. I also have 23 years of experience managing and shipping hazardous waste with Veolia. I came to Veolia with an Environmental Studies degree, a couple years of lab experience, and a few years spent driving tractor-trailers; what a surprise to find a career that includes all these interests and skills! My time with Veolia nurtured a passion for managing hazardous waste, for learning all I can about the pertinent regulations, and for working hard to meet and exceed my customers' expectations. I'm proud that I was a part of the team which has accomplished over 17 years of no OSHA recordables and OSHA VPP Star status at our local field services and 10-day facility! Safe and conscientious working, y'all! I do my best to emphasize safety to my coworkers and trainees; especially proper lifting and situational awareness. We all want to get the job done, but rushing and getting hurt benefits none of us. Go home the same way you came to work, and come to work the same way you went home! 18 years of working with one of my customers in particular, a very exacting military-related site, has been a great catalyst for me to grow and gain knowledge beyond that of many of my peers. I certainly don’t know everything! However, I try to keep learning and I've become somewhat of the go-to guy for coworkers and customers looking for guidance on some of the finer points of the regulations. When I can, I enjoy hanging out with friends around a pool, camping, hiking, biking, motorcycling, reading, music, concerts, food on the grill, hanging out with family, babysitting the grand-dogs.
