About Douglas Slavas

I started out working for an insurance company, Phoenix Mutual, where I collaborated with actuaries to write mathematical programs on programmable calculators to check life insurance policy quotes. I liked it so much I ended up going to school to become a full-time programmer. From there I moved through the ranks of the IT field from Programmer, System Analyst, DBA, Director of Applications, to my current position as Executive Director of all of IT. I know I ended up in the right field because I'm a naturally analytical person so I love solving puzzles. Lucky for me, I happen to work in a field where problems always arise. However, I have learned over the years that sometimes what people ask for is not what they want. Thankfully- I’m an active listener that has been through communications training and also have years of experience in the IT field. This helps me navigate to the root of the problem and deliver real solutions. A few accomplishments I'm proud of include: Modernized network infrastructure with upgraded classroom technology, service tele-conference system for multi-location classroom instruction, and new web based meeting system at Bay Path University. Reinforced a culture of security awareness by training the IT department with 15+ employees and implementing a security framework that directly reduced the impact of risk at Bay Path University. Improved research capabilities and subsequent funding by incorporating a new system with data analytics at Bay Path University. I work in the academic sector and I love attending the graduation ceremonies because it is a reminder of why I do what I do. I am focused on putting my passion and skills to good use.
