About Douglas Smith

I really gained all my true leadership experience while coaching Little League Baseball. Yes it is true that I have a degree in Business Management. It is also true that I have had extensive experience in several different career fields, managing several different types of people, to do several different types of jobs. However all my real success can be traced back to the 13 years I coached 9 and 10 year old boys and girls in the game of baseball and the game of soccer. I came to understand that trying to motivate someone is an impossible task. All motivation is self motivation. A person needs to want to motivate themselves to accomplish whatever they deem important. I learned that as a coach my job was not to motivate but rather to Inspire my players to motivate themselves. I learned to lay out a clear plan for how, as a team, we could be successful. I learned to give a clear description of the skills required to be successful. I learned that if you help them practice the skills until they are efficient and put it together with a team first attitude, you would have something very special when they hit the field. As a coach I learned that there will be failures, we won't always succeed, and sometimes mistakes could have been avoided. We learn from what was not good and we learn the skills and attitude required to improve for the next time. In short those kids help to teach me how to be a good leader and how to be successful on the field and off it. As any player I coached over those 13 seasons can tell you,"The attitude you take onto the field can dictate the outcome of the game. So be positive, pay attention, help your teammates, and above all else Have Fun." The truth for me is that I hope to be inspired by the company I work for so I will be motivated to inspire other to succeed. When we come together and work together we all succeed.
