About Douglas Yahn

Douglas A. Yahn holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies from Lakehead University with a focus on Archaeology, History, and Indigenous cultures. Mr. Yahn is a specialist in archaeological assessment, excavation project management and archaeological, historical and heritage research. His experience includes Archaeological Overview, Archaeological Survey, Archaeological Assessments, Archaeological Impact Mitigation and Monitoring carried out in accordance with provincial standards and federal guidelines in association with Indigenous Peoples, government, and industry. He has experience in the development of heritage resources mitigation measures and the documentation of heritage buildings and cultural heritage landscapes. He has completed assessments which support the Ontario Heritage Act (2005) and has a working knowledge of the key standards, guidelines and reference documents in the discipline. As a consultant for WSP, he has led round table discussions with Indigenous community members and industry representatives to facilitate mutual understanding of projects and process. He has field experience working with Indigenous communities in Ontario. He works on environmental and social impact assessments for projects across many sectors nationally. Mr. Yahn speaks on community impact and inclusivity in both national and international forums and is an active proponent of relationship building. Mr. Yahn is proud to be an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anthropology and a member of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Lakehead University. He is also the Chair of the City of Thunder Bay Heritage Advisory Committee and Past President of the Board of Directors for the Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society.
