About Drew Bowman

With a strong foundation in public health, health geography, and children’s health research, I am passionate about health promotion and advancing mental health through prevention and early intervention. I hold a BHSc and MA from Western University, where I began my career at the HEALab, coordinating research on food environments and other health topics relevant to children’s health. I later supported student and staff wellness across 25 schools as a Health Promotion Officer with the St. Clair Catholic School Board. After relocating to Alberta in 2022, I deepened my focus on health equity and newcomer wellbeing through a series of leadership roles at the Alberta International Medical Graduates Association, working in wellness, community engagement, and patient navigation. I then served as a Mental Health Education Specialist with Headwater Learning Foundation, where I supported school mental health and social-emotional learning. Currently, as the Werklund Mental Health Specialist at the University of Calgary, I design universal mental health and social-emotional learning programs, deliver professional development for educators, develop digital learning assets, and foster multi-stakeholder collaboration to build accessible, sustainable supports.
