Background
About Drew Davis
Life is learning. I'm devoted to education. My subject is film, which I love, but my goal is to empower, through critical thinking, those who want a deeper connection to the human experience. I’ve circled the globe as a Quartermaster for the U.S. Navy Submarine Force, backpacked across Western Europe, crossed the breadth of Russia by train, visited China, Vietnam and Cambodia and lived in Naples, Italy for three years. After graduating from Principia College with a degree in religion and philosophy, I pursued my love of cinema by studying filmmaking at UCLA Extension. Then I attended The Los Angeles Film School in 2001, writing, directing and editing two short films and crewing a dozen more. During this time, I volunteered with the arts-based non-profit group Inside Out Community Arts, teaching inner-city kids how to write and perform plays about their lives. I directed the independent feature comedy "Excuse Me," developed a screenplay with screenwriter Anna Thomas ("El Norte"), wrote a treatment for a Robert Louis Stevenson inspired horror film for producer Roger Corman and was commissioned to write a memoir about a Nazi labor camp survivor. My professional life includes analysis of hundreds of scripts and books, judging screenplay contests and mentoring new writers. I created and taught "The Art of Film and Video" course at the Los Angeles Film School (2008-2010), where students made over one hundred short films, premiering them in front of industry veterans such as producer Randy Greenberg ("Cowboys and Aliens"), director Eli Roth ("Hostel"), author Bruce Block ("Visual Story") and influential story analyst Chris Vogler ("The Writer's Journey"). I was an adjunct professor at Santa Monica College (2011-2013), where I worked closely with the head of filmmaking, Salvador Carrasco, to expand the college’s film program. I am presently the program's Production Coordinator.
