About Drew Shagrin

I teach law to business students at ESCP, and corporate governance and ethics to law students at Sciences Po. I also develop teaching tools to help learners better understand corporate governance, and write on topics that interest me (including corporate governance, CSR/ESG, and Gen Z). These activities come together in an organization that I recently cofounded, the Institute for Corporate Governance. I was formerly an entrepreneur in France. I founded, built, and sold the fashion e-boutique mamaNANA. In my 10 years running mamaNANA, I confronted all the issues that an entrepreneur typically encounters, from strategy and operations to marketing and sales, from finance and HR to supplier relations and customer relations. My entrepreneur’s optimism and confidence are balanced by a lawyer’s appreciation of risk. Before moving to France, I was a partner in a San Francisco law firm, where I structured and closed hundreds of complex public-private partnership transactions. My lawyer background allowed me to pilot mamaNANA wisely, with the right level of risk. I'm a creative strategist, a persistent tactician, and a clear communicator. As a negotiator, I love finding win-win solutions. I have the cross-functional skills to solve a broad range of problems, and the judgment to make good decisions. And I love teaching, helping people see the world just a little bit differently from how they saw it when we started.
