For the better part of 25 years, I was a reasonably successful radio/TV newscaster and "on-air talent", then made the transition to media relations with TransLink - Metro Vancouver's transportation authority. While I was one of its "public faces", reporters knew I was available when called on, the public knew I'd give them the straight goods, and my co-workers - planners, engineers and other subject matter experts - knew I'd represent them well.(Ken Hardie's recommendation points out how the public's opinion of TransLink improved during the 7 years I was there, and he gives me some of the credit for that.) As a freelancer, I work with Amelia Shaw Consulting, the International Association for Public Participation, Wilcox Group, and Stanton Associates. I also work solo in media training, helping people overcome nervousness and face reporters confidently and on-message. I've also written countless news releases, backgrounders, newspaper and magazine articles. Then, there's my voice work: I produce voiceovers, audio books, and can be heard at countless sports events, including University of Victoria basketball, Rugby Canada (including the annual Women's Sevens tournament in Langford, BC), Canada Soccer, the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championships.(Being bilingual helps!) Not incidentally, my "other" life is in Ministry: I spent 10 years pastoring on Vancouver's Downtown East Side and have been a guest speaker at churches.
