Find me on Indeed.com! https://my.indeed.com/p/drews-6vc276v Drew graduated from the Emporia State University, Emporia, KS with a BS in Psychology and Minors in Anthropology and Sociology (i.e. Crime and Delinquency Studies) in 2011. Later, he graduated from the University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth/Overland Park, KS with a MA in Counseling Psychology in the Fall of 2018. Drew’s practicum internship was with Non-For-Profit programs called Benilde Hall and Safe Haven in the downtown Kansas City, MO area. Benilde Hall is a program to help men who suffer from addiction and homelessness. The program focuses on teaching clients coping skills and changing their behaviors before relapse. Counselors actively work to help clients deal with their problems as well as get them into appropriate housing to fit their needs. Safe Haven is a similar program but works predominately with Veterans. The program is based on referrals from the Kansas City Veteran Affairs for those who need to gain housing. During his practicum, Drew started using Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) group therapy for Benilde Hall and Safe Haven. DBT Therapy is type of talk therapy (developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan) that is similar to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT focuses on recognizing negative behaviors/triggers/emotions in order to adopt better behaviors to help prevent relapsing back into addiction. DBT emphasizes the psychosocial aspects of treatment as well as developing coping skills to deal with everyday problems (i.e. relationships, addiction, mental illness, etc.).
