About Dries Vanysacker
Prof. Dries Vanysacker (Roeselare, 1962) obtained his Ph.D. in the Arts and Philosophy at the KU Leuven in 1992. Since October 1, 2011, he is professor at the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, KU Leuven, and member of the Research Unit History of Church and Theology (and was its Coordinator during the period: August 2014 - April 2021) As the Academic Secretary of the Revue d’histoire ecclésiastique. Louvain Journal of Church History (RHE), he is the Head of the Louvain representatives in this joint-journal with UCLouvain. In addition he is Director of the Dictionnaire d’histoire et de géographie ecclésiastiques. Louvain Dictionary of Church History (DHGE); member of the Directive and Coordinating Committee of the Index Religiosus: International Bibliography of Theology, Church History and Religious Studies and Head of the Study and Documentation Centre "Capuchins in the Low Countries". As a professor he teaches on "History of Mission and Evangelization","General History of Church and Theology (all time-periods)” and “Study tour Rome: the Vatican, the Holy See and other Catholic institutions” within the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies and on "Religions in Europe: Structures and Cultures" at the Faculty of Arts (History). From the academic year 2023/24 he teaches also as "professeur invité" on the history of sports at the "faculté des sciences de la motricité" at the Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain). He is also Vice President of the Scientific Committee and the Bureau of the “Kadoc: Documentation and Research Centre on Religious Culture and Society”; Managing Director of the Louvain series Spicilegium Sacrum Lovaniense; and Vice-Chairman of the “Comitato belga di Storia del Risorgimento (CHBR), sezione belga dell’Istituto per la Storia del Risorgimento italiano”. He is also member of the Scientific Committee of international journals as Archivum Fratrum Praedicatorum; Res Publica: Rivista di studi storici-politici internazionali and Sources: Art, Civilisation, et Histoire de l’Europe; member of the interuniversity Study Group “Bibliografie van de geschiedenis van België. He has published several books and articles on the history of witchcraft and magic during the early modern period, on the church history of the 18th century, and on the contemporary history of missions and on sports.
