Background

About Duncan Spence

Currently I am a Regional Security Officer( Security SME specializing in vulnerability assessment and threat analysis) currently on loan to our Security Policy shop. In the past I covered both South Asia and South and Central America and worked on diverse files ranging from procurement to coordinating security mitigation during times civil of unrest in various places abroad. I have managed files big and small and I am currently searching for my next stimulating challenge. I started my professional career years ago as as a freelance journalist after years of playing punk rock and hoped I may find a way to do some good in the world. I was young and straight out of J-School and I attempted to cut my teeth reporting on international affairs. I interned with the CBC in the UK and I worked with the J-Source International desk back at Humber in Toronto but in the end it turned out I didn't fancy being a passive observer very much, nor did I enjoy only every having half the story. So I made a career change and took my passion for policy and international affairs and I set out once again to try and do some good. I earned a Masters in Critical Infrastructure Protection, worked on Parliament Hill with Senate Security and now for the past few years I have been with Global Affairs trying to do just that.
