About Dustin Diaz

My name is Dustin Diaz and I currently go to school and work at Colorado State University. I am married and love spending time with my wife Kandis, whether it be hiking, fishing, hunting and being with our family. I have grown up working on farms and one thing I have learned is hard work. I think hard work is a skill and I also see it as a personality trait which I believe I have. Growing up in that environment I cut wood, stacked hay, cleaned stalls, put up fence, moved hand lines, moved trailers (mobile homes) and welded. Working these jobs I used various amounts of hand tools like a shovel, spud bar, fence stretcher, wood splitter, axe, band saws, drill presses, small tractors, etc. Another useful skill I learned was how to drive manual vehicles. My first paying job was a roofing job with a company in Wendell, Idaho, I worked with them for 3 summers. A couple of skills I learned and more thoroughly developed while roofing were problem solving/critical thinking, active listening, team work, safety and awareness. I used these skills all the time whether I needed to make sure I had the correct information to do something or to just be aware of my surroundings to ensure I didn't injure myself or someone else. I have worked other jobs too including laying tile, concrete polishing and electrical work. In these jobs the most important thing that I was able to develop was my communication skills. Another Job I worked was at the College of Southern Idaho on program board. Here I learned how to work as a team member and how to stay organized and convey information to people in a satisfactory manner.
