I am highly motivated by difficult research problems which generate large datasets and address questions regarding novelty and evolution in genomes. I received training as a bench scientist in cellular and molecular biology, but as an avid computer enthusiast and self-taught programmer, large-scale data analysis was always in the back of my mind. A functional genomics approach to studying immune genes was the perfect intersection of my interests and brought me to North Carolina State University to pursue a PhD and focus on bioinformatic methods.
