About Dwayne Harapnuik

I am a learning theorist who strives to use media and technology to enhance the learning environment. I received a PhD. in Educational Psychology from the University of Alberta and am currently aiding the School of Health Sciences at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) develop and implement their Learning Innovation Strategy. In addition to my consulting work I am also teaching in the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program at Vancouver Community College, and am serving as a Visiting Professor and co-developer of the M.Ed. in Digital Learning and Leadership at Lamar University. My previous academic appointments include: Instructional Development Consultant at BCIT, VP Academic at Concordia University College of Alberta, Director of Faculty Enrichment at Abilene Christian University (ACU), and Manager of Educational Technology at Lethbridge College. I have a long history as a technology and media innovator and was one of the pioneers of online learning at the University of Alberta (U of A) where I started teaching fully online in 1995. This innovative desire led me to ACU where I co-developed and supported ACU Connected, the mobile learning initiative that involved the campus wide use of iPhones and iPads to enhance the learning environment. This use of technology and media to enhance the learning environment is a foundational focus of my research and work in teaching and learning and has contributed to the development of online and media enhanced courses at BCIT, Shantou University, Lamar University, ACU, U of A, Lethbridge College and several other institutions.
