Naturally curious, my interests and experiences bridge science and the humanities. Within science, I am drawn to topics with personal and societal dimensions, including the origin & evolution of life in the universe; the emergence of brains & cognitive abilities in living organisms; and the development of modern biotechnologies that can reshape life as we know it. Much of my recent academic work has been in regenerative medicine focused on the human brain. stem-cell based research with profound personal and ethical implications for society, beyond what it will mean to have truly personalized medicine. My goals for the future, personally and professionally, are to advance the use of biotechnologies, while helping shape public perception, understanding, and policies about science.
