About Dwight Havens

Appointed to the Town of Malta, NY Planning Board in 2023. Currently President of Fire Companies of Malta (FCOM for short), an entity formed by the Round Lake Hose Company and the Malta Ridge Volunteer Fire Company to build and operate a shared fire station near the center of Malta, NY, for the benefit of the town. The shared station, located on Hemphill Place, provides facilities used by both departments and replaced two older smaller stations. Most importantly, it allows us to staff apparatus with firefighters from either or both companies, getting the first engine, ladder, or rescue out the door in route to an incident faster, reducing response times and improving service. I am retired from the Naval Nuclear Laboratory where I was a Principal Fire Protection Engineer, and in my last years served as the Kesselring Site Fire Code Official. I am also retired from the Phoenix Fire Department's Fire Marshal's Office. I am still active in the Round Lake (NY) Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter where new developments in engineering and firefighting are keeping me interested. Accomplishments-Serving those in my communities who've needed help with fire safety since 1973 as a firefighter/EMT/fire engineer/fire protection engineer, and fire code official.
