About Dwight Teter

My specialty is contract surety, but I possess a diverse background in various surety product offerings. This well rounded expertise was developed during 8.9 years with Ohio Casualty. I focused on the establishment, development and growth of the First National (FN) Contract program for 13.8 years at Safeco. I started FN in Philadelphia in 1994 and built the field organization serving the entire Atlantic seaboard. I was promoted to Underwriting Officer continuing management of the Atlantic seaboard while reporting to Tim Mikolajewski, Director of Contract. I relocated to Seattle in 2006 as Vice President and Director of FN reporting to Tim Mikolajewski, the newly appointed President of Safeco Surety. Liberty Mutual (LM) purchased Safeco in 2008. Over the next 8 years I transitioned through various leadership roles and worked with Lloyd Geary to merge various legacy companies (Wausau, Ohio Casualty, First National, Cigna, Safeco, LM Transactional and LM Small Contract) into what became Liberty SuretyFirst (LSF). LSF is being merged into the LM Core Contract book as one entity signaling a strategic philosophical change from a bifurcated structure with dedicated personnel supporting each market segment to a singular unit handling the entire market spectrum. I decided to take early retirement from Liberty at the end of November 2016. I transitioned to The Guarantee Company of North America-US as Chief Underwriting Officer in December 2016, and remained in that leadership role until the company was purchased by Intact in 2019. During my surety career, my overall success has been predicated upon achieving profitable results by building strong relationships of successful teams through passionate leadership and commitment to the industry.
