As a crisis counselor (CC) at 988, I am responsible for supporting people who are facing major crises in their lives. Utilizing the skills of empathy + validation + coping, we provide an outlet for those who have no one to talk to. As a CC, I have been exposed to judgements of professionals and close contacts outside the industry who may underestimate this position. However, that has only fueled the desire in me to support those facing mental health crises. I have been able to deeply understand various crises through this position.
