About Dyan Jong

I'm a Taiwanese American creative director, filmmaker and artist based in Los Angeles. In my 10 years in music and entertainment, I've worn every hat from concept to post: as photographer, GIF artist, retoucher, music video director, light installation artist, creative director, virtual production, and now writer. While I’ve worked in multiple mediums, I consider filmmaking the ultimate fusion of all of the above into an accessible and digestible format - the story. I see the career of my 20's as the gradual attainment of skill, networks and experience, in service to and paid for by clients. Now in my 30's, I find myself with new perspective and intent to use those tools to create personal narratives. My light installations are my most personal work, where I repurpose film lights to create temporal, immersive contemplations on immigration and third culture. The film lights are a nod to my image-making origins, and are never hidden, but openly present, to acknowledge their role in shaping Hollywood "movie magic". Light is no longer used to create an image for consumption but transformed into a lived experience for the audience, to encounter + document themselves on "set" as both consumers + creators.
