Full Professor of Education, Society and Critical Childhood Studies at UCD School of Education. Specialising in the field of sociology, researching at the intersection of sociologies of education and childhood. Principal Investigator of ‘Children’s School Lives’ : Ireland’s first mixed methods longitudinal cohort study of primary schooling (2018-2026: Previously Principal Investigator of longitudinal study of gender, literacy and wellbeing of children in rural Sierra Leone Both studies build on my long-standing research into children’s everyday lives, focusing on their voice, rights, identities and equalities across home and school. This has included comparative international funded research by the EU, in addition to national studies funded by the Irish State and research foundations. An additional project, funded by the Norwegian Council, examined inter-generational learning and sustainability across coastal communities in five Published widely in the areas of migrant children in education, children’s citizenship, teacher pedagogies and school cultures for social justice and equality.
