Background
About E. Morghen Sikes
I’m a licensed occupational therapist, educator, and researcher passionate about the intersections of health behavior, neurodiversity, and quality of life across the lifespan. With a PhD in Rehabilitation Science and over a decade of clinical and academic experience, I specialize in translating complex research into practical, meaningful interventions that enhance participation and well-being. Currently, I serve as Program Director for the Post-Professional OTD at Shenandoah University, and and Associate Adjunct Professor where I teach and mentor in research methodology and analysis, leadership, and the science of teaching and learning. My academic work focuses on health promotion in vulnerable populations, particularly adolescents and young adults with neurodevelopmental and neurological conditions. Clinically, I provide pediatric occupational therapy in early intervention and ActivOT—a neurodiversity-affirming program supporting individuals with meaningful participation. I am committed to occupational justice, equity in service delivery, and empowering both students and clients through evidence-based and inclusive practices. My scholarship includes over 20 peer-reviewed publications and frequent presentations at national conferences. I thrive on collaboration—whether leading faculty development, mentoring student research, or contributing to interdisciplinary teams. Areas of focus: pediatric neurodiversity, mental health, leisure participation, physical activity, inclusive education, research mentorship, and qualitative/quantitative methods. Let’s connect if you’re interested in occupational therapy research, interdisciplinary collaboration, or promoting health equity through education and practice.
