About Eamonn Armstrong

I am a Medicinal Chemistry student at Virginia Tech, and my goal once I graduate is to go into the field of research for cancer therapeutics. I have always been passionate about science, and I hope to develop technologies that will benefit society. My time at Virginia Tech has taught me to think critically about chemistry, good laboratory practice, and how to communicate effectively. I am currently working on an undergraduate research program called “Racemization Detection of Amino Acids”. In this program, we research chirality during amino acid derivative synthesis to improve drug design for antibiotics. This research position has taught me to hone my laboratory expertise in instrumentation and analysis with Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Chromatography, and Mass Spectrometry. One of my passions outside of chemistry is personal finance. I co-founded an investment club and established it as an LLC with a group of peers. In this club, I research stock market trends and present my findings at weekly meetings. This experience has taught me teamwork, effective presentation skills, financial management, and how to be a better researcher.
