About Eamonn Maxwell

Eamonn Maxwell is a highly respected curator and art advisor. In recent years he was collection advisor to the Arts Council of Ireland, growing & developing this national collection and he also led Lismore Castle Arts, transforming it into one of Ireland's most respected art institutions. Maxwell has extensive project management experience in contemporary visual arts and initiated/ delivering more than 100 exhibitions. He has curated exhibitions across the world including exhibitions in Ireland, the UK, Italy and the UAE His strengths include a passion for excellent programming balanced with audience engagement, development and fundraising expertise, commitment to good corporate governance and strong networking capabilities nationally and internationally. Maxwell has extensive management and leadership skills having created important initiatives with the Emerging Artists Programme at University of the Arts London and his role is making Lismore Castle Arts one of the most respected visual arts organisations in Ireland. These skills include financial management, strategic planning, team building and management, stakeholder engagement and fundraising. In his consultancy work Maxwell specialises in the strategic development of contemporary art organisations, policy making and audience engagement. As part of keeping abreast of the international art world Maxwell regularly travels to international contemporary art fairs, exhibitions, biennial's (including Venice Biennale, Documenta, Frieze New York, Berlin Biennale etc) and undertakes studio visits with leading artists. He has direct access to senior staff at some of the most important international commercial galleries. He has served on the boards of several organisations including Belfast Exposed Photography, Crawford Art Gallery and Solstice Arts Centre. Maxwell is also an active commentator on contemporary art internationally through his blog Curator On A Bike.
