About Eamonn Obrien

I enjoyed a satisfying and successful career - where I made pharmaceutical products. I felt nature needed more support - so I retrained to complete a 4 year part-time masters course in environmental sustainability - with field based project. I describe this achievement as aiming for the stars, and reaching those stars, where most peoples' target might reach the top of the trees. I m now familiar with areas from environmental legislation to Irish peatland habitats - to now retraining to use GIS for environmental investigations. I bring an abundance of career skills from a metric and time driven performance environment - rich in multi functional team experience, compliance, project management involvement, and mentoring of new employees - that includes excellent communication skills and an attitude to continue to learn. Following on from completed masters degree - I increased my conservation efforts to voluntarily partake in Birdwatch Ireland's annual field surveys. I completed (2021 and 2022) two conservation workshops with Birdwatch Ireland, to perform 4 summer time countryside bird surveys - then (2021 - 2022) move to winter counts of water birds at Bull Island's wetlands. Adding to my involvement in conservation - I worked as a temporary ecological consultant with Scott Cawley environmental, while also earning the rewarding role of being appointed Birdwatch Ireland's weekend Tern Warden and tour guide at Dalkey Island, Dublin. I have now been awarded a full time ornithologist's position with MKO environmental consultancy. Having a life long dedication for supporting wildlife - I also put up 20 wild bird nesting boxes each season, especially in an era where natural habitats are in decline - reducing the number of suitable nesting sites each year. Hobbies I enjoy include Astronomy - viewing celestial objects with my Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. Running, cycling and attending sports events.
