Background
About Earl Shockley
So after twenty years at National University, I am thinking it is time to start towards a different career path. I didn't begin the long road of employment making the greatest career choices. Not that the jobs were bad. It had more to do with picking the types of jobs I thought were "fun" and trying to force my personality into the job. After beating myself up for a long time, I was lucky enough to end at National where there was about a 70% match between job and personality. While it has been a good marriage, there is a difference between going to a job that you can do (and take pride in doing it well) and going to a career where you have a vested interest and love what you do. I guess that is where I am at in life. Now, I would like to think that I get better at this each time I do it. So I am going to throw out some traits and tell you truthfully how they match up to my personality. Hopefully, it will let any prospective employers know how well I will match up with their job so we can find a career match on both sides. Numbers - love them. They don't lie. Sometimes they have to be manipulated and sometimes they can be kind of tricky, but there is a certain perfectness to numbers. Spreadsheets - love them. If you know how to use them, they can do close to everything for you. Public Speaking - not me. Writing - little out of practice, but words can be as fun as numbers. Computers - okay, I'm a geek. I admit it. I'm the one everyone comes to when they can't make thier computer do what they want. People Person - that's tricky. I don't mind being around people. I would not be classified as outgoing. I'm definitely not a salesperson. Leader - I find I do better as the person next to the leader. The person investigating/troubleshooting and then coming back to the leader. Multi-tasker - fictional. At any given instant your mind can only focus on one thing. Logic Minded - yes. I like using my head. Definite independent thinker.
