About Ed Batts

I counsel public companies in a variety of M&A and Governance areas, including public-public deals, technology or product line tuck-ins, asset carve-outs, spin-offs, restructuring sales processes and financial sponsors. My clients tend to be serial acquirers, many of which are in the technology space, and they are spread out nationally and internationally. I advise on all forms of strategic public company challenges - from equity raises to accounting questions - and I routinely engage with management and boards on corporate governance issues. I have significant expertise in engaging with activist investors and the wider stockholder base. I also routinely help manage and shepherd a broad range of other matters, such as litigation from securities class action to patent litigation, and global entity and compensation issues. I am a San Francisco area native, Stanford Law grad and spent close to two decades practicing in the heart of Silicon Valley before moving to Southern California for family reasons. As such, my experience is grounded in the real life experience of the growth of Silicon Valley and tech. I also am interested and have clients in the energy and auto sectors. I have been a regular speaker at conferences such as the Financial Times' Outside Director Exchange, Stanford's Directors College and the Silicon Valley Directors Exchange. I publish annual checklists for use in M&A and public company reporting, as well as corporate governance surveys for the technology and energy industries.
