About Eddie Bishop

I'm a proven top performer as a web services software developer, manager and architect. I'm experienced in development of all levels of software from infrastructure and frameworks to complete applications. I'm also well able to plan and manage all phases of development and testing for small projects and large solutions. My management experience at Cisco is fortified by training as an Army Reserve Officer. I've always considered myself a general software developer, with an emphasis on solid design with a testing strategy defined up front. As a software developer, I believe if you don't know how you'll test it, then you don't understand what you're building. I started my development career as a C programmer, then moved on to Java (version 1.0b) and most recently Python and some Go. Each transition to the next language was largely driven by trends in the software industry. For 8 years I served as a Manager at Cisco Systems. Leading teams of people towards accomplishing a common goal is something that comes natural to me, and something I really enjoy. As a people manager, I followed a mantra from one of my Army Reserve units:"Mission first, people always." A few years ago I transitioned from management to an Architect role to allow me to roll up my sleeves and get back into the technology and be able to serve as a leader as well. I started my transition from management by introducing our teams to Docker and by demonstrating how we could create a fully automated CI/CD pipeline. I've positioned myself to help teams move workloads and products to the cloud. I have used both Openstack and Amazon AWS for the past couple of years and I have earned a few certifications to help give my experience some depth.
