About Edel Carey

I'm a former physiotherapy ‘student’ who developed a keen interest in the benefits of physical activity for people with mobility impairment. I worked in elderly care for five years in the UK returning to Ireland in 1998 where I have worked and volunteered in the disability sector in Tipperary since. My passion is to keep the body and mind active, through music, drama, exercise and motivation by whatever means possible and to bring this mindset to my working environment with a person centred approach. In 2022 after 24 years of working with people with physical disabilities in a day service setting, I moved to a new role as a Schools Liaison Officer with IWA providing Disability Awareness to both primary and secondary students and youth groups through DAISY (Disability Awareness in Schools and Youth Programme). I am a director on the board of North Tipperary Disability Support Service and Age Friendly Roscrea and a former disability rep on the Tipperary Sports Partnership. My experience of working with, and, being a person with a disability, have given rise to my current career choice which gives me opportunity to create awareness but also to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities in Ireland
