About Edel McDonnell

Edel McDonnell is a lecturer in the MTU Cork School of Music, in the Department of Musicianship and Academic Studies. Edel has been part of this department since 2006 contributing to the Early Years Education and Musicianship programme while also lending her expertise to the Department of Applied Social Studies within that timeframe. In addition to this, she has periodically lectured in the Technological University Dublin (TUD), and the Marino Institute of Education, associated college of Trinity College, Dublin. Edel has an extensive educational background and track record in continuous professional development in areas related to Early Childhood Music Education (including Kodály & Orff), Musicianship Training in Solfège & Conversational Solfege, as well as in conducting extensive research in early childhood music teacher training, among other areas. Throughout her career Edel has also achieved acclaim in the awards that she has received on a national and international level. She has been a prize-winner at the Dublin Feis Ceoil and at the MTU Cork School of Music, where she most notably was awarded the Bernard Curtis Prize for performance in piano. Edel was also awarded multiple scholarships from Silver Lake College, USA. Over the years Edel has contributed in many ways to university life, being involved in programme and course development, engaging in research and presenting papers on a number of topics including the Impact of Singing Interventions on Teachers in Irish Early Years Classrooms, at national and international conferences. Most importantly, Edel values being part of a team that creates an enriching Kodály-inspired learning experience for children and adults, developing their musicianship through singing and movement while nurturing lifelong learning and personal growth.
