About Edgar Cabanas

With more than 20 years of experience in corporate finance structuring. Currently, I spearhead investment project teams operating within the Digital Economy sector at the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest). My contributions in the field have been recognized with prestigious awards, such as the IDB Ortiz Mena Award from the Inter-American Development Bank in 2014. This award was granted in acknowledgment of my innovative long-term local currency financing product, which significantly enhanced the efficiency and corporate solutions offered by the Bank. Moreover, my achievements in 2019 and 2020 included winning the LatinFinance Social Infrastructure Deal of the Year and the IJ Global Telecom Deal of the Year, respectively, for my equity investment in Internet Para Todos in Peru. In 2023, I continued to receive recognition for my achievements, having earned the prestigious "Infrastructure Deal of the Year in Central America" accolade from LatinFinance, as well as the "High-Yield Deal of the Year" award from GFC Bonds & Loans for the US$450 million Liberty Latin America transaction. My career is characterized by extensive leadership experience, overseeing diverse teams of professionals, cultivating client relationships, fostering business development, and adeptly structuring and managing complex, multi-million dollar financial transactions throughout Latin America. I have successfully navigated various industrial sectors, including cement, agribusiness, pulp and paper, textile, and telecom. Prior to my role at IDB Invest, I held several pivotal positions at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), including Advisor to the Executive Director for Uruguay, Bolivia, and Paraguay, Alternate Executive Director at the Multilateral Investment Fund, Private Sector Country Coordinator, and Senior Investment Officer. Before joining the IDB Group, my professional journey encompassed roles as a Corporate Relationship Manager and Head of the Stress Asset Management Unit at Citigroup. My educational background is reinforced by an MBA and MPA acquired from the American University of Paraguay and Kansas State University. I have also pursued postgraduate studies in conflict resolution and negotiation mastery at prestigious institutions such as Georgetown University and Harvard University.
