About Edgar Herrera

Hello, my name is Edgar Graduated from The Illinois Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Science in Material Sciences and Engineering.(2017). Chicago Native, with a versatile plating experience in Metallurgy and Electro Plating. My interest for metallurgy was re-assured as I started my career as a lab technician performing mechanical testing on strip and wire metals for quality assurance. I found it interesting to see the science behind material's properties changed through different types of processing such as heat treatments and cold rolling to meet customers requirements. I learned how to prepare samples for hardness, microstructures, and grain size analysis. I also performed heat treatments and tensile testing according to ASTM specifications. I currently work in a small laboratory as a Metallurgist with a focus in the Electroplating Industry. I perform testing on plated and coated parts for quality control. I also perform chemical analytical testing on plating solutions ranging from nickel, tin, zinc, chromates and chrome baths to ensure baths are performing at their optimum. As for my future, I will continue learning and hope to contribute to the electroplating industry. In my free time you can find me practicing my new hobby of fishing near the Chicago area or enjoying nature walks on my free time.
