About Edi Setyawan

I’m Edi Setyawan, an all-around engineering enthusiast with a soft spot for mechanical and computer science engineering, basically anything that makes me ask, “How does this work?” I graduated in Mechanical Engineering, spent some time exploring Visual Communication Design, and eventually discovered that my true passion sits firmly in software engineering. Since then, I’ve been building my career in tech while keeping mechanical tinkering as a hobby (and an excuse to build or modify motorcycles). I started my software career back in 2009, freelancing locally and on oDesk (now Upwork), jumping between projects, mostly PHP, until landing a Magento project for a Japanese retailer in early 2014. That project evolved into a growing B2B eCommerce startup, scaling from a one-man dev effort to a company with over a hundred employees. I’ve been part of that journey from the beginning and still work there today. Even though I began with PHP and web development, I’ve never been loyal to just one language or framework. I believe engineering is more about logic, fundamentals, and mindset than specific tools. That’s what helps me stay adaptable as tech evolves. Within my current company, I’ve moved across disciplines, from Magento to ReactJS, then to SFCC (SFRA), and I’ve even supported DevOps, Linux servers, Ruby, Python, and other teams whenever needed. Outside of work, you’ll most likely find me riding, customizing, or even building motorcycles from scratch.
