About Edith Kuiper

My research and teaching at the State University of New York at New Paltz addresses the role of women and gender in the economy and in economic science. My current research focuses on the mostly unknown economic writings of eighteenth century women authors, which can be pamphlets, poems, letters or novels. Women wrote in genres and on topics different from those of their academic male contemporaries. It is fascinating to work on drawing out the economic content and the women's perspective on the eighteenth century economy and economic thinking, which was neglected if not denied for so long in economic science. This feeds well into my courses, as I teach, for instance, History of Economic Thought, Women & Work, and the Economics of Globalization. It is inspiring to see how students take it as self-evident that women have a voice in economics and contributed in their way to the development of economic thinking over the centuries. Besides all that, New Paltz is a gorgeous place to live for many reasons.
