About Edith Lewis

I am a social work and intellectual disabilities educator with 25 years+ of experience in Higher Education. This includes role as a faculty director of learning and teaching supporting strategic academic staff development. My teaching and learning experience is driven by the principles of social justice, equity, diversity and human rights. My research is inspired by experiences of Black students in the UK majority white academy. In particular adopting positive & meaningful practice that fosters sense of belonging for Black students in majority white education spaces to include schools. I provide tips for educators and continue to research on effective ways to foster sense of belonging for Black students in majority white academy which led to a University Academic Teaching Excellence Award in 2022. I have strong leadership, project management, IT, influencing and networking skills with intellectual curiosity and drive to make a difference. I am also a qualified health practitioner in intellectual disabilities with experience of advocacy, management and service provision in the field. In particular work and assessing young adults on the autistic spectrum.
