Dr. Edivando Vitor do Couto is a distinguished environmental leader advancing global sustainability through innovative geospatial technologies and sustainable agricultural practices. With over a decade of experience, he has led pioneering projects that have generated thousands of carbon credits and mitigated millions of tons of CO₂ annually. As Head of Carbon Projects and Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV), Dr. Do Couto played a pivotal role in Italy's first accredited agricultural carbon credit project with Alberami, setting new standards for sustainable farming. He was the technical lead responsible for the approval of the Project Design Document (PDD) and MRV at the International Carbon Registry. This project successfully generated over vintage carbon credits and achieved an estimated 1,142,682 tCO₂-e in annual GHG emission reductions, a milestone in Italy’s carbon market. He also led the ForestFisher project, securing €780,638 in funding for a sustainable fishing system in the Amazon. His contributions include- Developing a 7-million km² land use database covering South America- Optimizing large-scale data processing, reducing time by 90% through 500 lines of code- Leading an international 30-member team across multiple countries- Supervising master’s and bachelor’s students, providing academic and research mentorship. As an adjunct professor at UTFPR, he has taught Digital Cartography and Biodiversity to over students.
